Web Content ImageGerman television company ProSiebenSat.1 Produktion has installed 12 loudness metering and control systems at its facilities to bring output into line with EBU R128 specifications, writes Kevin Hilton. The RTW TM9 TouchMonitor systems have gone into four HD control rooms and eight edit suites at studios in Unterfohring, near Munich.

ProSiebenSat.1 Produktion is a subsidiary of ProSiebenSat.1 Media, for which it supplies TV production and technical services. The facility’s HD studios are used for pre-production and broadcast work and four TM9s are now used in the control rooms, three of which feature Lawo mc2 66 digital audio desks.

Eight further TM9s are running in Pro Tools sound editing rooms used for preparing voice recordings and film sound-tracks, including 5.1 productions. All ProSiebenSat.1 Produktion’s TM9s have mixed analogue and digital audio interface configurations and conform to ITU-R 1770-2/1771, ATSC A/85 and ARIB as well as R128.

“We have used RTW metering systems for a long time, so it was clear to me very early in the planning stage of this essential project that we would one more rely on that proven technology,” comments Joachim Hentschel (pictured, left, with RTW technical director Mike Kahsnitz), who oversaw the re-building project for ProSiebenSat.1 Produktion.

The company’s technical team is now reportedly interested in the new RTW TM3 TouchMonitor, which was shown during this week’s BVE show in London and is due to begin shipping during April.
