Sennheiser, Neumann, DiGiCo combine in the digital chain

DiGiCo SD9 controlled Neumann digital mics Three pro-audio heavyweights recently came together to record a 40-piece female cappella choir at Beaconsfield’s National Film & TV School using an entirely digital signal chain, writes Paul Watson. Neumann digital mics were controlled directly from a DiGiCo SD9; these were hooked up directly to a Mac via an RME MADIface.

The thinking, according to Sennheiser’s Dave Wooster, who was in charge of the recording process and operating the SD9 on the day, was to record the choir fully digitally in the simplest way possible to prove that digital is ‘coming of age’, and is functional too.
