Web Content ImageThe first BVE North exhibition takes place from 16th to 17th November in Manchester and audio has a strong showing, with new products from SoundField, Olympus, Roland, Canford, SADiE and Steinberg, alongside seminars focusing on sound, writes Kevin Hilton.

Distributor HHB has a wide range of manufacturers lined up, with product debuts for two portable audio recorders, the Olympus LS-20M, which also records 1080p .mov video, and the Roland R-26 six-channel unit, plus the TC Electronic TM9, Mogami 5.1 surround mic cable and SoundField's X1 up and downmix 1U box.

Canford will have a mix of its self-manufactured infrastructure products and distributed lines on display. The company's own range has been expanded with the introduction of new mains power distribution units (MDUs) and D 'n' A (digital and analogue) cables. Also on show will be the Tascam DR-40 recorder (pictured) and Voice Technologies' miniature lavalier and headset wireless microphones.

Steinberg will introduce version 5.5 of the Nuendo recording and editing package, which gives updated functionality, group events and the ability to edit across multiple lanes.

Prism Sound will show the dScope Series III audio analyser and new software for the SADiE 6 editing system. The company is also sponsoring a session in the audio section of the seminars programme. Adam Heath, technology manager for BBC Technology, will look at creating new craft editing facilities for BBC Radio using SADiE 6.

Other sessions include the keynote by Tim Sargeant, head of technology for BBC North, looking at how technologies were selected for MediaCityUK, plus presentation on field location workflows for audio and demystifying audio for video.
