Paul Rodgers' appearance at Under The Bridge on 13 April, performing to and answering questions from an invited audience of fans, industry faces and media, was a fine piece of promotion all round, writes Gez Kahan.
For Rodgers, whose UK tour kicked off two days later, it guaranteed saturation publicity from the radio station Planet Rock, which was co-promoting the event (with Yamaha) as part of the Off The Record series (also available to view online). That meant plenty of namechecks and endorsement by association for Yamaha – although the longer-term aim of Off The Record is to inspire fans to take up (or return to) playing an instrument by giving them an insight into how leading artists create their music and sound. And it was the ideal showcase for Under The Bridge itself, a swanky new venue beneath the East Stand at Stamford Bridge, home to Chelsea Football Club.
